I went to the store armed with Cnet reviews and the intent to buy a Panasonic, but personally, I hated the image of all of them. Everything was like watching a crummy video game. Others love them. I do not.
The Hitachi was the best image in its class, had a great form and you can always find one on sale. Setup was easy, the controls are easy to navigate, and I find the remote to be fairly intuitive.

Before throwing $2,000.00 away, I would suggest contacting Hitachi first and verifying what their warranty covers. We purchased this TV (from another retailer) on December 3rd. On January 27th we discovered a very large crack that looks as if it originated behind the silver strip on the top of the TV, and has expanded in either direction from there.
Per the 1st inital contact with Hitachi, we were told that they only warranty the screens for 30 days(mind you, we also paid $300 for a 3 year warranty!). Refusing to accept this, we contacted Hitachi again. This time we were told that based on our description, it sounded like a manufacturer's defect & they would cover the repair costs - if we paid to have an authorized repair center come to our home and determine that we were not at fault.
Now, we were only given 2 "authorized repair centers" in our area, the closest being 18 miles away, & have been trying to contact these companies for over a week - never getting an answer. Also, IF it's determined we are not at fault, according to the warranty card (which does not specify that the screen is not part of the warranty), we will also be responsible for shipping costs to Toshiba, and back.
So....total estimated cost of TV 60 days old:
$1,700 - TV
$300 - Extended warranty
$300 - Service Call (estimated)
$400 - To ship to Toshiba (based on other customers experiences)
$400 - To ship TV back to me.
$3,100.00 Total Cost
In addition to the crack, we are also experiencing loud humming coming from the TV (even while turned off) & have had the TV turn itself off while in the middle of watching normal programming. If I could, I would rate this 0 stars.

I can only imagine how great this Plasma is. I am waiting and waiting and now it will be around the end of February. Over all this would not be a problem because I really want this model. The issue is their IDIOTIC customer service! They have to be in India or somewhere like that and I do not know how long customers will put up with their ignorance and lack of proper response.
Amazon needs to reassess their customer service, seriously!
Ever time I send a DETAILED email with a simple inquiry about a transaction (not only this order), I receive an idiotic BOILERPLATE response only remotely addressing the question, a simple example: Hello, can you please let me know when the item will ship? Hello, what is your price matching policy at Amazon?
The response is: We at Amazon want to thank you for your inquiry; unfortunately, we are not responsible that your left foot is larger then your right foot and sometimes socks are out of stock but we will make sure that you get your "tri-sickle" on time.
I know I am exaggerating but in essence that what their dumb reply is, makes me want to spend thousands of dollars with them....NOT!

I'd write a review if I had the damn unit. Right now, its gotta be one star, since I can only imagine (based on other reviews) how nice this puppy is.
Latest shipment estimate is end of Feburary. 2 1/2 months delivery time?
It could be time to begin to look elsewhere for one of these bad boys.

After making weekly trips the the local brick & mortar stores, I finally decided on the Hitachi. One of the reasons was the way this tv handled fast moving action, such as sports, with a lot less artifacting than lcds.
Out of the box this tv displayed an amazing picture. It was easy to adjust. I am very happy with the PQ of this tv.
The only negative I see is that the sound seems a bit weak. If the tv is used in conjunction with a HT setup this should not be a problem. I am using it in a bedroom with a surround hookup, so the flaw is more pronounce.
Also this was ordered through Amazon.com and the shipping process of this unit went fantastic. I was given a window of time from 12/21-01/063/07 to expect delivery. Even during the Xmas season this tv was delivered on 12/22/06. The delivery was very professional. Couple this with 12 months no interest/no payments and a great price and you get an excellent value.
